Job Title: Mechanical Modeler

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager  

Summary of Position: Prepare 3D models, drawings, and other engineering information for electric motors, and associated manufacturing tooling.  This job will require communication with a broad range of people/groups including: engineers, manufacturing operators, manufacturing managers, and BLMW management.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Other duties may be assigned.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using 2D and 3D modeling software.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Utilize software tools for mechanical design of electric motors and components

Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities initially.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor of Arts degree in design or drafting and some experience in mechanical design using 3D modeling software.  SolidWorks is preferred.  

Language Skills Reading Comprehension – Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Oral & written expression – The ability to communicate information and ideas by speaking and/or writing so others will understand.

Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, and 3D Modeling software, e.g. Solidworks, ProE, Inventor, etc.  

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Bluffton Motor Works has an immediate career opportunity for an analytical, disciplined, and organized thinker as an Electrical Engineer in Bluffton, IN.  This position is suited to an Electrical Engineer who thrives on critical analysis to solve technical problems involving facts, processes and complex systems.

Primary Function:

As a member of the technical staff, the electrical engineer is responsible for the design of new electric motors based of customer specifications, including specification reviews, product development, design reviews, documentation, preproduction builds and transfers to production. This engineer will also be responsible for technical support of some mature products currently in production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, design and test new electric motors to meet customer specifications
  • Provide customer support for existing products
  • Evaluate existing motor designs to improve the manufacturability of the motor
  • Work with other Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to improve energy efficiency of motors
  • Lead project teams and all activities related to the development of new and existing products
  • Provide technical support to other functional areas as needed

 

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • B.S. in electrical engineering with 5 – 10  years of experience in AC electric motor design required
  • DC Electric Motor design experience highly desired
  • Proficient in Microsoft products, such as Office is required
  • Proficient in statistical analysis software, such as Minitab highly desired
  • Proficient in relational database software (i.e. SQL or Microsoft Access) highly desired
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing project leadership experience is highly desired

Position: CNC Programmer

Reports to: Tech support Manager

Job Description:   This position is responsible for programming multiple CNC machining centers, lathes, mills, and grinders. CNC programmer must be able to perform manual programming as well as CAM software and ability to work from CAD drawings, Solid Works and Esprit.  All programs must produce parts to engineering specifications.   This job requires the ability to determine and procure tooling for new products on CNC lathes, CNC mills, and CNC machining centers. This job requires continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and safety procedures.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or higher is required, CNC training certification and minimum 3 (Three) years of Machining experience. Additionally, to be a competitive applicant should have significant experience with a 3D CAD and CAM program.
